Great little historic cabin! It's in a beautiful park next to a wide shallow creek. Plenty of parking and a friendly and knowledgeable volunteer to tell you about the place.

I didn’t expect to be so moved by a log cabin, but the Lower Swedish Cabin in Drexel Hill, just outside Philadelphia, completely surprised me. Tucked away in the woods beside a gentle creek, it felt like I had stumbled into a forgotten chapter of early America. The cabin itself is humble — two stories of hand-hewn logs, built by Swedish settlers in the 1600s. But standing inside, you can almost hear the echoes of the past. I imagined the crackle of a fire, the creak of wooden floorboards, and the quiet resilience of the people who lived there. It’s not flashy, but it’s deeply authentic.

Located in a picturesque setting along the Darby Creek is the 17th century-built Lower Swedish Cabin. This dwelling was constructed circa 1650 and has been meticulously restored and cared for by the Friends of the Lower Swedish Cabin. The methods of construction and the cramped interior of the small cabin truly give the sense of what life was like for early settlers of the region! Our tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, with the entire experience lasting just over an hour. Tours are held on Sunday afternoons, but it is recommended to check that there is one scheduled before you visit.

This building provides a rare insight into the architecture, location, and living conditions of the Swedes who lived in the Delaware Valley in the 17th Century. It has been restored through the years, and shows commitment by the Friends of the Lower Swedish Cabin in maintaining this gem. I would recommend this place to anybody in the country who desires to know more about the various people who settled in the Americas during the Colonial Era.

This place needs more love and attention

This a really cool historic cabin. The trails around it have a lot of things to explore too. It's not a far walk down the trail from Creek Road station to the cabin.
